Nordvad

North West is a modern interpretation of the fabrics that have protected people in the Nordic countries for centuries — wattle and cloth. Valved, densely felted fabrics that warm, resist wind and time, and carry a cultural heritage of function and beauty.

With Nordvad we wanted to combine the traditional sense of craftsmanship with a contemporary expression. The color is a nuanced blend of brown and green tones — a modern, elegant interpretation that ties in with the historical role of the wattle in the military, where dull green hues were recurrent.

Part of the wool in Nordvad comes from our culturally historically valuable allmogera breeds. Sheep that have existed in the Nordic countries for centuries, well adapted to our climate and landscape. Small, stubborn animals that graze among rocks and woods, and whose wool folds consist of bottom wool that is insulating and covering hair that is protective.

Most of these breeds are today endangered. By using their wool and giving it new value, we want to help preserve a living cultural heritage, and show that tradition and sustainability can go hand in hand.

The fabric has a rustic feel and natural strength that makes it ideal for overshirts, coats and upholstery fabrics.
